Sport Massage
Sport massage is a supportive measure subordinated to the requirements of training and competition. It should never be allowed to become a routine procedure always carried out in a set way. Instead, the massage therapist must adjust to the particular situation. The massage should not be so hard or intensive that it interferes with the athletes normal training.
Sport massage is usually carried out for one or more of the following reasons:
- to promote a sense of well being
- as a diagnostic tool
- as a therapeutic measure
The following techniques can be used during sport massage:
- basic techniques of classic massage
- trigger point therapy
- lymph drainage
- deep traverse friction massage
- ice massage
